Al-Khuwair Square Project Inaugurated in Muscat’s Ministries District
Muscat, 22 May (ONA) —— The inauguration of the Al-Khuwair Square project in Muscat Governorate’s Ministries District was celebrated today under the patronage of Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat. Spanning over 12,000 square meters, the project features modern and sustainable elements.
The development includes more than 9,000 square meters of green spaces, along with dedicated walking and cycling paths extending over 435 square meters. It also offers multiple public seating areas, a café with an open-air upper lounge managed by Omani entrepreneurs, public facilities, and parking spaces—making the square an ideal destination for leisure, recreation, and outdoor sports activities.
The square’s design incorporates architectural elements that reflect Omani identity.
A standout feature of the project is a 126-meter-high flagpole, constructed using 141 tons of steel, topped by the Omani flag measuring 25 meters in length and 44 meters in width.
In a press statement, Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, emphasized that this project represents a qualitative addition to the governorate’s public facilities, carrying both symbolic and cultural significance.
"We hope this square becomes a vibrant gathering place and an attractive landmark that enriches Muscat’s urban landscape while enhancing the quality of life for its residents and visitors. This aligns with the governorate’s ongoing efforts to humanize the city and strengthen social ties across its neighborhoods," He added.
On his turn, Ahmed Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, noted that the inauguration of this distinguished urban project marks a significant addition to the capital, reflecting the ambitious vision of creating lively public spaces that meet community aspirations. This is achieved through sustainable public areas that integrate natural elements and Omani identity.
He pointed out that the project is the result of constructive collaboration between the public and private sectors, through a strategic partnership between Muscat Governorate (represented by Muscat Municipality) and Jindal Steel Company, underscoring the importance of national partnerships in achieving sustainable urban development goals.
