A’Rustaq, 4 Jun (ONA) --- A’Rustaq Health City and the World Health Organization (WHO) today signed a letter of cooperation to support efforts in including A’Rustaq in WHO's Healthy Cities Program. This initiative aims to improve quality of life and enhance public health through comprehensive, sustainable programs targeting all community segments.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Yahya Sulaiman Al Nadabi, Wali of A’Rustaq and Chairman of the Wilayat's Health Committee, and Dr. Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative in Oman.

Al Nadabi emphasized that this agreement marks a significant milestone in A’Rustaq's health and social development journey, reflecting the wilayat's commitment to the healthy city model that integrates efforts between official institutions, civil society and local communities.

He clarified that the Healthy Cities initiative extends beyond treatment to include enhancing quality of life through clean environments, advanced education, food security and active community participation. Noting A’Rustaq's rich history, aware community and cooperative institutions, he affirmed the wilayat's readiness to become a model for comprehensive health initiatives.

Al Nadabi added that recent volunteer initiatives and cross-sector efforts demonstrate A’Rustaq's preparedness to achieve sustainable health development per WHO standards, aligning with Oman Vision 2040's objectives.

For his part, Dr. Jean Jabbour stated that this agreement represents an important step toward sustainable local health development, coinciding with Oman's growing focus on healthcare sector development under Oman Vision 2040.

He explained the Healthy Cities initiative emphasizes cross-sector coordination and community participation in decision-making - key pillars of the "Health in All Policies" approach adopted globally by the WHO.

The WHO representative confirmed continued technical and logistical support through planning, implementation and evaluation phases until reaching official certification as a healthy city, praising Oman's governmental and community efforts in health initiatives and its regional/international leadership in health promotion.
