Over 300 Endangered Egyptian Vultures Spotted in Dima wa Al-Ta'een
Dima wa Al-Ta'een, 30 Jul (ONA) --- The Environment Authority of North A’Sharqiyah Governorate has documented more than 300 Egyptian vultures, an endangered species, in the Wilayat of Dima wa Al-Ta'een in North A’Sharqiyah Governorate.
Saif bin Habib Al Na’ebi, an ecosystems supervisor at the Environment Authority, stated that this sighting represents one of the largest recorded gatherings of this species in the region, highlighting Oman's ecological significance as a vital habitat for both migratory and resident birds.
The Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), he noted, is classified as globally endangered due to habitat loss and overhunting. Environmental experts confirm that this large congregation demonstrates the success of conservation efforts in the Sultanate of Oman and serves as a positive indicator of wildlife diversity in North A’Sharqiyah Governorate, reinforcing ecosystem preservation measures that support such species.
This monitoring initiative is part of the Environment Authority's ongoing efforts to track biodiversity. Oman's governorates have frequently documented rare bird species, further establishing the country as a destination for ecotourism and scientific research.
