Manpower Ministry's Undersecretary Receives US Delegation

Muscat, Feb 8 (ONA)--- Sayyid Hamad bin Hilal al Busaidi, Manpower Ministry's Undersecretary for Labour Affairs received here today an American delegation currently visiting the Sultanate within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement.

     The meeting discussed a number of topics relating to the labour sector, manpower and joint cooperation fields within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement between the Sultanate and the United States of America.

     The US delegation included Chris Wilson, US Trade Representative, Trade Attache at the US Trade Department and a number of US officials.

     The US delegation expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in the labour laws in accordance with the international standards and procedures regularizing them.

     The delegation was briefed on the steps and programmes implemented by the Manpower Ministry in labour welfare, safety, occupational health, labour inspection, as well as, programmes implemented with the International Labour Organization (ILO) within the framework of the suitable labour programme, declaration of basic principles and labour rights.

     The US delegation also expressed preparedness of the US government to contribute throughout the technical cooperation programmes within the framework of the Free Trade Agreement during the forthcoming period.
