Secretary General of Supreme Council for Planning / Statement
Muscat, Oct 1 (ONA)--- Sultan bin Salim al-Habsi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning said that the royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said to set up service and developmental projects in Musandam Governorate come as additions to the approved projects to Musandam Governorate during the 8th five-year plan ( 2011-2015).
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he added that upon issuance of the royal orders, the Supreme Council for Planning allocated the additional budgets for the implementing of these developmental and service projects in Musandam Governorate.
He added that many projects have been allocated for Musandam Governorate either those related to completing road, construction or replacement of some hospitals, health centres and some fishing marinas.
He added that the cost of the projects approved to Musandam Governorate during the 8th five-year plan (2011-2015) amounts to RO.500 million. He hoped that such projects would contribute to developing the Governorate and availing job opportunities for its sons.
He pointed out that the Supreme Council for Planning has prepared the reference terms to make a study for the economic development of Musandam Governorate. The study takes into consideration the location, as well as the tourism and commercial nature of the Governorate. He affirmed that these projects will serve the interests of the citizens in the Governorate and will contribute to their employment.
As for Diba/Lima/Khasab road project, he pointed out that the 65 km long road completes the progress made by the project at the last point which starts from Al Khaldiyah in the wilayat of Khasab to Diba crossing Lima. The project includes a number of tunnels and bridges. He added that the project will be floated during the coming weeks.
He added that using the tunnels in this project is a new experience for the Sultanate and hopefully this will reduce time and cost. He hoped that the experience will be successful in Musandam Governorate, especially the technologies have reached advanced stage in the Sultanate, whose governorates are known for their tough terrains.
As for the operation and management of Khasab Port, he affirmed that the port is still managed by the government and that practical steps have been initiated to consider managing the port by specialized companies - either for commercial or tourism use. He added that the port still needs some services, which hopefully will be implemented soon to make the port qualified to play this role.
He added that the National Ferries Company will launch next Sunday the first journey to Diba through Shinas port vide Al Halaniyat vessel. When the port entrance is deepened, journeys will be operated by the National Ferries Company between the wilayats of Shinas, Diba, Khasab and the nearby ports. He also hailed the developmental role played by the company in connecting the wilayats of Musandam altogether and connecting the Governorate to the other governorates.
