Sultanate Obtains Golden Prize for Best Theme Development in Expo Yeosu 2012

 

    Yeosu, South Korea, Aug 11 (ONA)---- The  Sultanate's pavilion at Expo Yeosu 2012 in the Republic of Korea obtained the golden prize for the Best Theme Development, which embodies and translates the exhibition's theme "The Living Ocean and Coast".

     The award was received by Mohsen bin Khamis al-Balushi, Adviser at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Commissioner-General of the Sultanate's pavilion at Expo Yeosu 2012 during a ceremony organized by the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) to handing-on prizes for best pavilions  participating in Expo Yeosu 2012.

     Mohsen bin Khamis al-Balushi said that winning this award by the Sultanate's pavilion is a translation to the considerable efforts of the initiatives and efforts by individuals, governmental institutions and private sector's establishments in the Sultanate.  It also comes as recognition for the achievements of the Sultanate in the field of environment conservation; thanks to the Royal attention of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said in this regard.  

     In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he added that this prize comes as an honoring by the organizing committee to whoever concerned with the Sultanate's participation including the pavilion, design, components and topics displayed in the pavilion.  He affirmed that this winning did not come from a vacuum, but reflected the accumulated experience of the committees' members through former Expo exhibitions, which helped those concerned in this participation to absorb all that is required to participate in this global event, noting that the Evaluation Committee to select the winners included specialists concerned with the environmental science, in addition specialists in Expo exhibitions.  It is a neutral committee that has nothing to do with the host country or BIE, which chosen the Sultanate as the best pavilion that captures and translates the exhibition theme "The Living Ocean and Coast".

     On his part, Mohammed bin Salim al-Harthy, Sultanate's ambassador to South Korea expressed his delight over the award. He pointed out that winning this award culminates the successful efforts made by the ministerial committee, the technical committee, the sub-committees and participating teams. 

     He affirmed that winning this award is a source of pride for everyone as this will enhance the status of the Sultanate in the international arenas and will contribute in enhancing the Sultanate's relations with other countries and opening new horizons for cooperation. This will reflect in a manner or another on enhancing the Sultanate's tourism relations and attracting investment opportunities in different fields.  

     The Sultanate's pavilion showcases different details and components of the Sultanate from the Omani man, his heritage and features through audio, visual and print means.

     The pavilion (786 square meters) is inspired by the traditional Omani environment and highlights the history and culture of its people, especially in marine discoveries. The six sections at the pavilion showcase Oman's role in preserving marine wealth and its natural resources.

      The pavilion includes a space for receiving visitors. The space includes touch screens that provides quick and valuable information to visitors on Oman's rich marine history and culture, as well as at the future plans to addressing threats on the marine environment.

     Also showcased are traditional miniatures of "Al Ghanja" vessel, the entrance of the old districts of the Wilayat of Muttrah, and the Traditional "Areesh" made of date palm fronds.

     The 4D movie theatre includes 44-seat.  It has a semicircular screen that surrounds the seating area and is equipped with hi-tech sound and music system. The theatre screens short documentaries on the Sultanate's marine wealth and preservation of its natural resources.

     Meanwhile, Mohsen bin Khamis al Balushi, Advisor of the Commerce and Industry Ministry and the General Commissioner of the Sultanate's pavilion honoured a number of local staff who managed and operated the Sultanate's pavilion during the period of the exhibition.
